Life is very fragile, we all strive to be loved and cared for or want to care for others. The basic instinct of survival is so a part of us we don't even think about it. You read of people who stop when they see a house on fire to try and save anyone still inside, or they pull people from burning cars.
There are many heros in this world we live in. Many go unnoticed, they don't want the glory for what they do. They just do it. My father is one of them. He is a WWII Veteran, he still carries the metal piece in his back and the scars on his legs from the battle's he was in. He even returned to his ship once to find it gone, only later to find out it had been sunk. He had already been reported to his mom as MIA and possibly dead. It took two weeks before he was able to contact anyone to let them know he was still alive.
Right now we have thousands of HEROES among us, they are all called Veterans. They could be from any war - old, or young. Many are carrying their injuries - mental or physical inside where they can't be seen. They don't talk about what they seen or done over there.
I had a friend return from the Viet Nam War - to a young bride that he had just married before going over.
One day he was sitting in the middle of a log eating his food out of a leaf, he got up to do something and a mortar hit the log and killed his friends that were still sitting on the log.
His new wife wanted to make things better for him but didn't know how. They ended up getting a divorce. He was not the same man she married and sent off to war. She didn't know how to make it better. He couldn't adapt to the old way of life.
Before you go to bed tonight, say a prayer for a soldier, they depend on us to hold them up.
They are fighting now for what we believe in - the freedoms we hold dear. I know I appreciate what they do and I thank them for it. I am sure you do too.
