The last few weeks I have been working with new software, software companies, engineers, mechanics, managers, co-workers and a manual that refuses to be written because of all the afore mentioned.
New is not always good. New brings its own set of problems - especially if it is part of the old. Yet, the old is not allowed in the new. Confused yet? Welcome to my world of work. My company used to be another company, but now it is its own company. We have to let all of the "old" ways go - which means we have to make all new procedures, ways of doing things, standards etc. They have to be "changed" somewhat so that they can become "new" without breaking the law.
The manual I have been writing is the first one about a component that has been build FREE of all the old "ways". Therefore we are finding how short we fall on the things needed to write the manual. My "party" is not over yet. My client is located in another country and he is having to deal with the fact that my first "product" to him will not be delivered as promised - on time.
Being the perfectionist I am this has been extremely hard on me. When I promise something I do my best to make sure it is done - on time, and at a cost that is affordable and not over what was bid.
I still have two days - who knows - maybe a miracle will happen.
