I never get tired of hearing from my family and friends. It doesn't make any difference if they are having a bad day, or something good has happened. It gives me a chance to relate to them and what they are going through.
Some days are bad, really bad. Others are okay. Then others are really good. Most are average, we deal with what life throws our way. Do we buy this or pay that? All is a part of what we do and how we handle it.
If we have - what my mom always called - a champange taste on a beer budget - we are going to get into trouble. Or do we buckle down and live within our means. This day and age that can change at anytime. The loss of an income, or the downsizing of your department.
I remember when I was laid off a job - I was devastated - even though I knew it was coming, it still hurt. I had done a good job, my reviews had all be excellant. Yet, it was a numbers game and some had to go - I was one chosen. Yet, I found there was life after that job.
After a bit of time feeling sorry for myself (hey I am human after all), I picked myself up and went out there and got another job - it didn't work out so I went and got another job. Unfortunately right now there aren't that many jobs out there. So it is a bit harder to do.
God said he fed and sheltered the birds of the sky and why would he not do the same for us? He also said he would not put more on us then we are able to bare. Sometimes we wish he would send us a postcard and just tell us what the heck is going on and which direction we are to really take. We feel like we are walking around in circles and can't find our way out of the box. Sometimes his answer is "wait" or "no". Those are the hardest to take. But we have to say "yes Lord", I will wait.
I used the example of our little hamster we had with my kids one time. Teddy would scratch and claw and try his best to get to the top of his cage so he could get out - all he wanted was freedom. Yet, what he didn't see was our cat sitting over looking at him saying - come on boy - you would make one nice snack. Sometimes what we want - God can see that cat watching us. So he puts us on hold to protect us from ourselves.
Since I lost my sister I have been doing a lot more reading of God's word and you know, he is right on. Sometimes we don't like what he tells us to do, but as our Father he knows what is best and if we will listen - he guides us down the right path. Every time.
